Thousands of construction workers lost their jobs in Tehran

The head of the Tehran Construction Trade Unions demanded the allocation of a consumer basket to improve the living conditions of 140,000 workers.

Mohammad Bagheri, head of the Tehran Construction Workers’ Association, said construction workers needed support in the days of the coronavirus outbreak. “In Tehran, about 140,000 insured construction workers work within 50 unions,” he said.

He said that despite working for many years, more than 50 percent of workers need help because of poor living conditions, but no one is interested in them and they are not provided with any livelihood support.

According to ILNA, Bagheri said: “Many seasonal and construction workers wait in the city squares every day from morning to night, but can not find work, and as a result return home empty-handed.”
