Maharram Mahammadzadeh, a member of the Tabriz city council, protested against the concealment by the authorities of historical artifacts discovered in the mausoleum. He demanded to know where the items were stored and whether it was true.
Mahammadzadeh also spoke about the 10-storey hotel built near the Mausoleum.
According to him, in other cities, buildings built next to historic buildings are being demolished, while in Tabriz the opposite is happening. The mayor said that the construction of the hotel was approved by the Minister of Culture. But the director general of the Minister of Culture denies this.
Thus, it is not known which department allowed the construction of a 10-storey hotel next to the historic building.
Fridun Babayi, a member of the Tabriz city council, said: “The Minister of Culture and the mayor’s office are reluctant to disclose the name of the hotel owner. Undoubtedly, the person or organization that owns the hotel cannot destroy the famous historical monuments of Tabriz and Azerbaijan without state protection! ” – he said.
“We have heard many times that Tabriz was destroyed by earthquakes several times. “Even an ordinary citizen digs for a gas pipeline, so how can there be no archeology at a university in a city with so many historical artifacts?”
