After 25 years of work by the Reza and Yaqub Sarabli brothers, they collected the museum’s belongings from the old villages, warehouses of the Tabriz market, Gajil Square and other places with their own money.
The museum was originally opened with 12 professions on the 21st of Ordibehst 1396 during the visit of the then Vice President Zahra Ahmadipur in the presence of several local dignitaries.
But while the establishment of the museum has delighted those who value its past, its complete closure on Museum Day has become even more frustrating.
Reza Sarabi said in an interview with journalists on the 11th of Bahman 1397:
I regret opening a museum. It was not decided to leave the antiques in one corner of the museum and turn them into a warehouse for antiques.
He said in a recent interview about the museum’s closure:
We faced many difficulties in building the museum and now we are very indebted. Maybe this is not our job. On the other hand, neither financially nor ideologically, no one or institution has helped us.
The governor gave a place to build a museum, but did not follow suit. From the moment the museum was established, I faced many financial difficulties. This would not have happened if they had helped in the first steps.
Governors around the world are turning ancient buildings into museums. I even agreed to hand over the items to the governor.
The head of the Museum of Professions says:
I took 40 years to collect the works. Many of the works are inexplicable. It is impossible to find so many works, and perhaps the mayor’s office says in response that the neighborhood is full of these works. And I say please go and find just one type. In conclusion, I thank the nation for its hard work in this direction, and I hope that in the future I will be able to compensate for their hard work.
