Russia’s proposal for a ceasefire in Karabakh was accepted

Nagorno Karabakh

Last night, a ceasefire prepared by Russia was signed by the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia. Although a 9-article statement on the ceasefire has been issued, there are still ambiguities in the agreement. But in any case, what is clear is that after 30 years, the Azerbaijani army will remain in the lands it reclaimed, and Armenia will withdraw from all the lands left behind. According to the statement, the Russian army will monitor the progress of the agreement under the name of the Peacekeeping Forces. The agreement was hailed as a complete victory by the Azerbaijani government, which said it would work to return refugees, in particular, to the reclaimed lands. However, the situation on the Armenian side is not the same. The Armenian government said it was forced to sign the agreement and said it was doing so in difficult circumstances. After this news, people in the capital Yerevan protested against the decision to take to the streets. The Armenian parliament was occupied by protesters, and even Pashinyan’s house was looted by such a nation. Today, Iran made a statement on the issue. Mahmoud Vaezi, the head of President Hassan Rouhani’s office, said he was looking forward to the agreement and called on Azerbaijan and Armenia to respect international borders and the rights of all citizens. However, the main thing in the agreement is the absence of Iran and its claims.

Iran has no place in the Caucasus

Iran has already sided with Armenia in the Karabakh issue from the very beginning. The Tehran government was the only country that kept its border with Armenia open from the air and on the ground during all the days of the war. It is obvious that Armenia provided all its needs from Iran, and if it were not for Iran, it would probably have to agree to withdraw from the occupation much sooner. Another issue is that Iran has no role in practice. Iran, especially Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Iraqi, has been trying for days to play a role in the issue at the initiative of Iran, but in the end failed. Iran has also accused Turkey of bringing terrorists to the region since the conflict began, but the agreement does not say so. Also, what the Iranian authorities have said so far does not say a word on this issue. This shows that Iran has, in fact, made such claims from the very beginning as a propaganda war. At the end of the day, Iran’s hand was again far from the Caucasus, and today it is even weaker than yesterday.

The psychology of Azerbaijan’s victory is important

However, there are no exact details about the ceasefire agreement signed yet, and there are some doubts. In addition, Russia’s presence in the region as an army is of particular concern to the Azerbaijani nation. But in any case, it is clear that a situation that has occurred in 200 years cannot be resolved in a few weeks. Also, if you go back two months ago and look at the situation, it is clear that Azerbaijan is a strong country, who managed to gain the lands that have been occupied for 30 years by their own will and expel the occupier. On the other hand, the Azerbaijani army has established an extremely correct and strong performance at the level of modern technological armies of the modern world and has been the main guarantor of its success at the discussion table. However, another issue that has a profound effect on them, and especially on South Azerbaijan, is the psychology of victory and success of the Turkish nation. The occupation of Karabakh seriously undermined the will and pride of the Azerbaijani nation in both the north and the south. The success of the whole technique at the moment and the spirit of victory are extremely important for the Azerbaijani society and are a necessary condition for greater success in the future.
