As reported, the national activist of South Azerbaijan, Dr. Latif Hasani’s 9-year prison sentence was reduced to 6 years and 8 months. This decision was made by the Tabriz Court on November 18, 1399 by the Reconstruction Department No. 11. Following the decision, Latif Hasani was released on May 23.
It should be noted that Hasani spent about 10 years of his life in various prisons in Iran to protect the national cultural rights of South Azerbaijan. It should be noted that the activist was born in 1349 in the city of Khalkhal. He completed his secondary education in Ramsar and transferred to the Faculty of Philosophy in Karaj. Latif Hasani moved to Baku to continue his education and completed a high school diploma and doctorate in international law at the Baku State University.
He returned to South Azerbaijan in the mid-1380s and continued his political activities there. Although Latif Hasani wanted to work as a teacher in Karaj, he was opposed by Gozinesh.
He was arrested in Khordad in 1389 with 14 friends on charges of “propaganda against the regime, acting against national security and forming an illegal group.” Thus, the Tabriz Revolutionary Court sentenced him to 18 months in prison. The activist continues his national activities even after his release from prison. He was arrested in Bahman 1391 on charges of forming a New Gamoh group with four friends, known as Engineer Ayat Mehrali Bey, Engineer Mahmud Fazli, Shahram Radmehr and Behbud Guliyzadeh, known as Yurush. It should be noted that Latif Hasani is elected secretary-general of this organization.
In the month of Bahman 1391, the general and members of the organization’s central council were arrested. A few days before the 1392 presidential election, Gazi Mohammad Bagherpour sentenced his friends, including Latif Hasani, to nine years in prison on charges of propaganda against the regime. This verdict is immediately reviewed and approved by the Supreme Court of Divane. It should be noted that Dr. Latif Hasani is the most arrested political activist of the Azerbaijan National Movement. His wife, Azam Piri, is also a leading figure in the national movement.
