India’s Ministry of External Affairs issued a demarche to the Iranian ambassador, claiming that the remarks by Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif were “totally uncalled for and unacceptable.”
In a tweet late on Monday, Zarif wrote, “Iran condemns the wave of organized violence against Indian Muslims. For centuries, Iran has been a friend of India. We urge Indian authorities to ensure the wellbeing of ALL Indians & not let senseless thuggery prevail. The path forward lies in peaceful dialogue and rule of law.”
Earlier, Pakistan, Turkey, and Indonesia issued statements on the Delhi protests.
