Azerbaijani activists have expressed support for Sajjad Joulani in naming his son “Ayil”. Thus, activists wrote slogans “Ayil is a political concept” and “Children’s names are not in the same language” along the streets of Ardabil. With these steps, they protested against the radical position of the Persian regime.
It should be noted that Azerbaijani cultural activist Sajjad Coulani appealed to the Sabte Mood Department of Ardabil to name his 7-month-old daughter “Ayil”. As a result, the name “Ayil” was not on the list compiled by the organization. For this reason, the child’s parents were told that they could choose a name from the appropriate list. An activist commented on the issue to the Anadolu news agency.
“I was told by the Sabte Mood Office that three people teaching Persian language and literature in Tehran will make a final decision in this regard. They also opposed it and prevented my daughter from being given this name. “Those experts told me that the name ‘Ayil’ was not in line with Iranian culture,” Sajjad Coulani said.
The activist said that the name “Ayil” fully corresponds to the folk culture, meaning “wake up, be aware.”
Sajjad Coulani was arrested on September 29 last year during a rally in support of Karabakh in Ciral Park in Ardabil. He was physically abused at the time of his arrest, and was later released on bail.
